Sea Lions and Seascapes of the Pacific Northwest Coast

Owen Sea Lion Shores provides a beautifully immersive Pacific Northwest Coast experience, enjoyed by both guests and the resident sea lions. State-of-the-art features support optimal animal welfare while a giant sea arch, towering cliffs, dense evergreen forest, a sandy beach play area and expansive viewing opportunities transport guests to the sea lions’ world.


Project Features at a Glance

  • A 275-thousand-gallon saltwater pool with an underwater kelp forest and sandy beach areas

  • Seasonally modified pool water temperatures to keep the sea lions comfortable throughout the year

  • Wave chambers with programmed variations in water current cycles (both wave size and strength)

  • Multiple sunning sites on sandy beaches or rocks and shaded areas exceeding animal care minimums

  • Training areas, dive rocks, swim-around island, a pupping beach and pup pool introduction area

  • Sheltered amphitheater, sheltered outdoor viewing, and 40-foot-long underwater viewing window within a rocky cave

  • A giant sea arch, a sandy beach play area, a waterfall, and highly detailed rockwork with starfish and barnacles
